Patient # 1924

This patient in his 30’s from the Vancouver area came to see Dr. Hasson about a hair transplant to fill in the corners of his hairline.

Overall he did have the appearance of a good head of hair but to style the hairline the way he wanted too would require reinforcement. As is the case with many patients in similar situations, most would say a hair restoration surgery is unnecessary for someone with this amount of hair and minimal loss. However, what is most important is that even this small amount of loss can bother a patient on a daily basis and getting it fixed can make a dramatic impact on how the patient feels about his hair and overall appearance. With plenty of donor hair and a small area to cover, Dr. Hasson could be a little bit more aggressive with the design of the hairline and placement. The texture of this patient’s hair was very coarse. Technically it can be difficult to make coarse hair look natural but as usual Dr. Hasson is able to pull this off with his skill and ability to dense pack. Especially with coarse hair, the grafts must be placed close enough together to create a natural appearance. Too big of spaces between the grafts especially with coarse hair can create a pluggy or unnatural appearance. This patient’s hair transplant surgery required a total of 1842 grafts. 523 were single hair grafts, 1245 were double hair grafts and 70 were 3-4 hair grafts. The strip size was 15cm x 1.5 cm and the procedure went well and according to plan. The patient reported no discomfort the day after his surgery upon his visit to the clinic for his first post-op hair wash. This result is only six months post-op and this patient was ahead of schedule. He healed extremely well and there are virtually no signs of surgery, the scar is virtually invisible.  He recently had his haircut in the back to a 2.5 guard and has healed so well in fact that an FUE procedure would have probably not produced anything visually better in the donor area and actually would have created more overall scarring. Needless to say the patient is very happy and the continued improvement over the course of the next few months will just be icing on the cake.
