Dual Transformation: How Two Brothers Restored Their Confidence Together
Gerardo, a patient from Italy in his mid-to-late 30s, began noticing hair loss as early as age 16. His father and both grandfathers were bald and with this strong family history of hair loss, his progression was not unexpected. His older brother, Giuseppe, who shares a similar genetic profile, began experiencing hair loss in his early 20s.
The Sibling Effect: How One Transformation Triggered a Second
Giuseppe paved the way with his initial procedure at Hasson & Wong in 2016 at the age of 30. The Transformation Plan
The plan for Gerardo focused on restoring the hairline, frontal zone, and as much of the mid-scalp as possible. An initial estimate of 4,000 grafts was considered appropriate. However, during the pre-operative consultation with Dr. Sood on the morning of the procedure, it was determined that over 4,500 grafts could be safely harvested, which would allow for more mid-scalp coverage. As is often the case, particularly among many Italian patients seeking maximum coverage, obtaining as many grafts as safely possible was a priority. Gerardo was pleased that a more aggressive harvest could be performed, resulting in a total yield of 4,600 grafts.
On Day 1 of the procedure, 2,300 grafts were harvested by Dr. Sood’s team and used to rebuild the hairline and portions of the frontal zone. 300 were single-hair grafts, 1,547 doubles, and 453 multi-hair (3–4) grafts. On Day 2, the remaining 2,300 grafts were harvested which included 50 singles, 1,688 doubles, and 562 multi-hair grafts. Both days were relatively easy and proceeded according to plan, with efficient extraction and implantation.
Amazing Results At Only The 6 Month Mark!
Shortly thereafter his return home, Gerardo began using topical finasteride and oral minoxidil to prevent further loss and also provide a reasonable chance to improve other areas of thinning. The photos shown here were taken at the 6-month post-op mark. In addition to good early transplanted growth, he also appears to be responding well to the medication, with noticeable improvement in the crown area. He is considering a second procedure in the future to further enhance crown density, depending on how well his response to continued use of the medications. Additional growth and maturation of the transplanted hair are still expected in the coming months, and updates will be shared as they become available.
At just six months post-op, Gerardo reports a significant improvement in his quality of life. He notes that the results are already clearly visible, his social life has transformed, and he frequently receives comments that he looks younger. Most importantly, he feels more confident and no longer believes he looks like the older brother.
