His Story

This young man in his mid-20’s from the Vancouver area first went to visit his family doctor about his hair loss. She recommended he come to see Hasson and Wong to address his concerns over the thinning of his hair. We saw him at the clinic in the Spring of 2011. At the time he wanted to be proactive.

While he was not too concerned with the present look, he feared more loss would leave him in an unenviable position. He wanted to look into his options and possibly prevent further loss. Considering his hair loss did not bother him to a great extent at the time, we determined the best course of action was that he start the medication Finasteride (Proscar).

He took the medication for 6 months without any problems. But as is the case for a number of patients, he stopped after 6 months for no good reason. With the medication’s typical slow and gradual improvement of the existing hair (especially in the mid scalp and crown) sometimes a patient will not see the benefit and feel little urgency and get complacent when it comes to staying with the medication. As often is the case, the loss progresses once the medication is discontinued.

With continued thinning of his hair which was starting to bother him, he came back to see Dr. Hasson in August of 2012. When Dr. Hasson first saw him in 2011, he exhibited characteristics more closely resembling a stage 3A but was heading for a potential stage 6.  On his second visit, the thinning in the mid scalp and crown was starting to materialize and the march to a stage 6 was in motion which is reflected in before photos. At this time the hair loss was starting to bother him. Dr. Hasson suggested 3,500 to 4,000 grafts to mostly the frontal zone and some mid scalp to create the desired cosmetic benefit. Dr. Hasson also felt the medication would revive some of the hair in the mid scalp and crown. The patient restarted the Proscar shortly after his second visit. He decided it was time for hair restoration and subsequently scheduled his hair transplant procedure for the fall of 2012.

Dr. Hasson and team rebuilt his hairline and frontal zone blending into the mid scalp with 4005 grafts of which 1174 were single hair grafts, 2594 were double hair grafts and 237 were 3-4 hair grafts. He came back to the clinic 21 months after his procedure to show Dr. Hasson his final result reflected in these photos. He was very happy with the outcome and more than willing to showcase his new hairline and appearance to help those prospective patients seeking a similar solution of hair transplant surgery for their hair loss. The medication also improved the areas behind the transplanted frontal zone adding to the impact of the result.  With continued medication, it is unlikely he’ll need another hair restoration procedure.
