This patient in his early 30s traveled from Newfoundland to Hasson and Wong seeking a hair transplant to address thinning in his frontal zone, mid-scalp, and crown. With a family history of hair loss on his father’s side but full heads of hair on his mother’s side, he aimed to restore density without an overly aggressive approach. He prioritized the front and mid-scalp while hoping for some crown coverage. He also used topical dutasteride to maintain and potentially improve his existing hair.
It was determined that two sessions would be necessary for full coverage, with each procedure requiring about 3,000 grafts.
In the initial procedure featured here, Dr. Sood and the team transplanted 3,000 grafts using the FUE extraction method to restore the hairline, frontal zone, and parts of the mid-scalp. They placed 300 single-hair grafts in the hairline, while 2,148 double-hair grafts and 552 grafts containing 3–4 hairs added density behind the hairline.
A 0.85 mm motorized punch was used for harvesting. Extracting and inserting the grafts went smoothly with minimal bleeding. Both the donor and recipient areas healed exceptionally well without complications.
The hairline will continue to improve and mature from this point forward. These photos were taken at the clinic eight months post-op, on the same day the team performed a second procedure using another 3,000 grafts to address the rest of the mid-scalp and crown.
